"Going to Extreme " Chapter 5 Heero stared at the clock. He could hear the alarm sounding, but made no movement to stop it. It wasn't until Trowa reached over him to stop the annoying beeping. "You didn't sleep much, did you?" Trowa asked softly into his ear as he kissed Heero's bare shoulder. Heero didn't answer, proving just how upset he had become. Keeping his silence, he pushed from Trowa's embrace and headed for the shower. Trowa sat up straight, watching Heero disappear into the bathroom. For the first time, he wanted to pry; wanted to know what was bothering Heero so badly. He closed his eyes as he heard the bathroom door close. The last time the door was closed, to prevent Trowa from joining him, was when he was angry at Trowa for flirting with another man. Trowa knew Heero wasn't angry at him; he just wanted to be alone. The Japanese man's anger was toward whoever made the phone call last night. Thinking about it, Trowa reached for the phone and checked the caller ID. It was a blocked number. He made a mental note to call their phone service to prevent blocked calls from occurring. He replaced the phone, then laid back to stare at the ceiling. He thought about the voice on the answering machine. It was a woman's, but no one he knew. Actually, it sounded more mechanical than human. What were the chances of last night's prank call being connected to the conversation between Heero and Dorothy? It was when he was pondering this, that Heero emerged from the bathroom, wearing only a towel. He watched his lover dress, toiling over how best to ask. Heero sat on the edge of the bed and leaned forward to kiss Trowa. Their lips met briefly, and when Heero tried to leave, Trowa held onto his hand. "Can I ask you something?" "Hn?" "Does last night have anything to do with Dorothy and Relena?" "Don't you have to be somewhere in an hour?" Heero snapped and pulled himself free from Trowa's hold. "I'm sorry, I know I said I wouldn't pry-" "Then why are you?" "Because it bothers me to see you like this." "Are you pissed off because I wouldn't fuck you in the shower?" "No. This has nothing to do with that. I think more of you than that. It's just-I haven't seen you this upset in a long time. If there's something I can do, let me know." Heero lightly cupped the side of Trowa's face, allowing his thumb to caress his lover's cheek. He leaned forward, resting his forehead against Trowa's. He sighed deeply before talking. "I'm not intentionally trying to hurt you. I just don't want to talk about it." He released his lover and pushed to his feet. "Heero-" "You don't want to be late." It was the last word as he left. Had it been anyone else, they might have ran after him in attempts of a forced confession. . .but Trowa wasn't like that, knowing that certain types of persistence pushed Heero's buttons. Though he would never verbalize it, he was thankful that Trowa was like that. The morning had already started out bad with the little scene between him and Trowa. The baby booties he found attached to his car's antenna, pushed him toward the edge; but the state of his office, mixed with comments from his coworkers was enough to send him over. Heero's eyes narrowed to slits at the banner stretched the length of his desk, proclaiming 'congrats on the new baby'. They darted from one pink balloon to the next blue before landing on a box of cigars sitting open on his desk. "Good morning Heero." Chirped his secretary. The twenty-three year old blonde woman was named Sundance. "I'm sorry I'm late." She quickly apologized after noting the scowl on Heero's features. In truth, upon seeing this, she wished she had called off instead. He didn't respond as he stormed into his office, Sundance stayed on the threshold. A quick peek inside caught her full attention. "Oh. . .I didn't know that you and Trowa were considering-" "We're not!" Heero snapped and ripped the banner from the desk. He then threw them and the cigars into the trash. The balloons were next as he popped all six of them with his bare hands. It relieved some anger, but not enough to satisfy him. "Do me a favor, and get this shit out of here." He growled and shoved the balloons into the trash. Sundance nodded and quickly claimed the trash. "And if anyone says anything-" "It's not true." Heero nodded, glad that his young receptionist learned quickly. "And get me the number for legal." "Right away." Heero slumped into his chair, silently cursing Dorothy and Relena, just to make sure he got the right one. They were persistent, and gutsy. . .he gave them that much. Remembering what happened to Duo, Heero picked up the phone to call Trowa's cell. It was answered on the second ring. "It's me." "You okay?" "Yeah. About this morning-" "Don't worry about it. Just tell me whenever you want." Heero placed his head in his hand as he listened to Trowa's voice. "What are you doing now?" "Waiting for Quatre." "He's late?" "A Winner is never late. They just happen to have their own time, and the watch line to prove it." Heero smiled, and his hand slid to his jaw. "You sure you're okay?" "Yeah." "Can I stop by after Quatre leaves?" "Actually, why don't I come home for my lunch break?" "I'll be waiting." "No naps." Trowa chuckled before hanging up, and Heero did the same. Just hearing Trowa's voice placed him in a better mood. That was almost too perfect. He would be able to warn his lover when he would go home for lunch. "Excuse me, Heero, you have a call on 4656, she sounds a little disgruntled. Nor would she give me her name." "I'll take care of it Sundance." Heero informed and reached for the phone again. "Heero Yuy." "Good morning handsome." Upon hearing Dorothy's voice, Heero's lighter mood suddenly eclipsed. "Could you hold a moment?" "If you hang up on me, I'll call back Heero." "Oh, I'm not going to hang up." He punched the 'hold' button, stood and closed his office door, before returning to his desk. "Wow, that was fast." "Look, I'm only going to warn you once, stop with this baby bullshit." "Well, I wouldn't have to go through it if you'd stop being the gene pool grinch. Did you enjoy the cigars? They were pure Cuban, imported from Earth." "This is considered harassment." "But then there's always the hard task of proving anything Heero. Phone calls are made from phone booths every day, and literally hundreds of people use them every day as well. Then there's the fact that your newest coworker, Nancy, is actually pregnant, and it wouldn't be too hard to accidentally decorate the wrong room." "You seem to forget that I don't always work within legal lines. . .nor do I have to." "Can we pretend we're adults here and discuss this in an appropriate manner?" "There's nothing to discuss. You want to act like
an adult, then learn what 'no' means." That said, Heero slammed
the phone back on the receiver. ~ * ~
